Self Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE)

SABE is people speaking out. SABE stands for Self Advocates Becoming Empowered and it is a self advocacy movement. We are from the Boulder & Broomfield chapter of SABE and we are part of a national organization also called SABE. We started because people with intellectual and developmental disabilities were isolated, segregated and our voices were not being heard.

What We Want:

  • Political solutions, and politicians to work with who are focused and involved

  • Answers about how money is spent and choice about how money is spent

  • Trained providers so they treat their clients better

  • Somewhere to go to get our complaints resolved when we have a problem with the system, are not being given a choice, or if we have a complaint and things need to change

SABE Meetings:

SABE members meet once a month to talk about issues, rights, benefits, and fundraising. Together we brainstorm ideas, learn about the system from guest speakers, go to the Capitol to educate decision makers. Advisors support this work. If you want to get involved, please contact Ailsa Wonnacott:
