Workshop: Rewriting Our Worlds

An afternoon writing workshop for parents who have/had children with challenges (disabilities,    medical issues, adoption, solo parent, addiction, etc)

Sponsored by the Association for Community Living (ACL)

Preregistration required.  Held at the Meadows Library,4800 Baseline Road

This workshop is part of an ACL Boulder & Broomfield Counties ReWriting Our Worlds Writing Project. We currently have a monthly writing group with writers of all levels some working on book-length projects. We are parents literally rewriting the narrative of raising a child with a disability or other challenges. Ultimately, our stories are about us.

Participating in this workshop is required to participate in the monthly writing group.

ReWriting Our Worlds is organized around mythologist Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey. The Hero/Heroine answers the call to the journey, is tested and challenged as she/he sees the allies, obstacles, mentors and gifts of the journey and then has to find a way to integrate the adventure into their daily lives. We are already all on this road, this class will give us the language and format to make better sense of it as we deepen our understanding of our personal story.

No writing experience is required. Our writing sessions are guided by readings and writing prompts.  Please bring a laptop or notebook along with a water bottle.

Facilitated by Anna Stewart. Anna is the mother of three young adults- all with unique needs including cognitive disabilities, medical and mental health issues. Anna is also the author of over 400 articles, essays and reviews in a wide range of publications and book anthologies. She is the author of Mother Blessings: Honoring Women Becoming Mothers and School Support for Students with AD/HD: Getting a Good IEP, 504 or RtI Plan.
